Barry Sonnenfeld was born and raised in New York City. Born 1 April 1953, is an American filmmaker and television director. He worked as cinematographer for the Coen Brothers, then later he directed and produced big budget films such as Men in Black.

Known both for his multifaceted career and his habit of channeling drama into comedy, Barry Sonnenfeld has been working steadily since the mid-1980’s as a director, cinematographer, producer, and  from time to time, as an actor.
